This shrubby evergreen plant is known since antiquity, for its strong aroma and taste. It loves warm climates and is found mainly in Mediterranean countries, where it comes from, as well as now in the US and Mexico. In Greece we find it as native to mainly stony areas. It is a very popular herb, especially in the Mediterranean countries, as it is one of the few aromatic plants that retains its aroma in prolonged cooking, which is why it is considered an ideal choice for marinades, sauces as well as grilled meats and vegetables.
